Across the county line– across the city line– in Reminderville, there will be soon be an additional 300 homes built in the Aurora School District. This project is well into the planning stages with land clearing to begin soon.
Reminderville Mayor Sam Alonzo said, “It has all approvals except for its final permit from Army Corp of Engineers. It is zoned environmental district to protect wetlands and retain more water on sight. The homes will be $250,000.00 plus”. Sales representative guessed that sales would begin early summer.
Here is the proposed plat for the development and a map of the portion of Reminderville that is in Aurora’s school district. (click on map for larger view)
Access to these new homes will be from Glenwood/Orchard Rds. and Florida St. and East Blvd. According to data, each homes generates 6-8 automobile trips a day. Hmm, 8 x 300=2,400 cars.
And let’s guess that there will be 2 children per house, that’s an additional 600 kids in the schools.
Sales representatives said that the development would most likely be built in phases.
More information will come soon.
This area has been part of the Aurora School District since 1940’s?. Originally, the only roads to Reminderville were through Aurora Township and the Geauga Lake area. A large section of the Village of Reminderville was annexed to the Aurora School District because travel to Twinsburg schools was not practical.
You can call Reminderville Village Hall at 330-562-1234 for more information. Or post comments and question here.

Here’s one of the popular Aurora urban myths. I’ve heard it from a number of sources, neighbors and an elected office holder.
It is said that 10% of the townhouses at Barrington are set aside for Section 8 low income housing. The Section 8 Rental Voucher Program increases affordable housing choices for very low-income households by allowing families to choose privately owned rental housing.
I asked Residence at Barrington leasing agent Brad if there are any Section 8 rentals. “Absolutly not,” he said. “We are a luxury townhouse residence, our townhomes are leased to those who income qualify. There are no low income Section 8 leases at Barrington.”
Got another Aurora Urban Myth? Send it in and I’ll do my best to investigate it.

The original Our Lady of Perpetual Help church building seems headed for demolition. Seems that maintenance costs are too high for the catholic church. The building was moved here from Solon in the ’50s where it was also St. Rita’s church. Is nothing sacred?
The Aurora Co-op Nursery School currently leases and the building, they are searching for a new location. The most likely location is out of Aurora. Other community groups also use the building.
At the most recent Landmarks Commission meeting here in Aurora, Mayor McGill presented plans for the beautification in the Historic District. His plan would build a clock tower at the intersection of routes 43 and 306. This location is west of the Bicentennial Gazebo and north of City Hall on a overgrown parcel of city property. Here are the visuals that were presented, you can click on them for a larger view.
According to the mayor, the $180,000 cost of the project will be paid by private donations from individuals and organizations.
The patio was designed by Cawrse & Associates and City employee Dennis Altman will build it. The cost of materials is $15,000 and is in the 2007 city budget
Clock Tower was designed by the VERDIN Company and will cost $130,000, the brick and limestone covering will be applied by local craftsmen–brick masons–estimated cost $50,000—the total of $180,000 will be donations from organizations and individuals—$1,000 donation paid for 1/3 each year for three years.
Questions? Comments? Post them here or come to the meeting.

A real shame. And shame on everybody that went to HomeDepot or Lowes instead. Burger’s Hardware has done so much for this community over the years. It cannot be replaced. I will miss the store and the people. I always shopped there first.
